Silmy is not new to the defense sector, his introduction to the Indonesian military began in 2007. Initially, with his educational background and experience in the economic and business fields, he was asked to supervise the transformation process of the businesses owned by the TNI. At that time, Silmy was appointed a member of the TNI’s Business Transformation Supervision Team (TSTB) in 2007.
In addition to defense, Silmy had the opportunity to attend intelligence education in Germany.Therefore, he has also joined the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) as a Member of the Strategic Analyst Council (BIN) since 2013. His experience in the fields of economy, defense, intelligence, as well as national security and international security allows him to contribute well in his assignment at BIN.
The assignment in BUMN began when Silmy was assigned to be a commissioner at PT. PAL (Persero) in 2011. This assignment carries the mission of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense in ensuring that the submarine and warship development program at PT PAL (Persero) can be carried out properly and the technology transfer process runs successfully.In October 2014, the position of President Director of PT Pindad (Persero) was vacant because Sudirman Said was appointed Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Silmy was finally appointed as President Director of PT Pindad (Persero) replacing Sudirman Said through the Final Assessment Team (TPA) process led by the President of the Republic of Indonesia.After successfully fixing and improving the performance of PT Pindad (Persero) within 1 year 7 months (22 December 2014 – 3 August 2016), Silmy was given the trust to improve another BUMN, namely PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero) starting August 7, 2016. After serving at PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero) for 2 years and 1 month, the Minister of SOEs gave another task to fix PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk through the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) on September 6, 2018.
