Komnas HAM: Police Violating Human Rights

KNews.id- The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) stated that the police had committed human rights violations against four FPI troops. This is because four FPI laskar were arrested by the police while they were alive after the incident where cars were shuffled.

“Regarding the KM 50 incident and above, there were four people still alive under the official control of state officials who were later found dead. So, this incident is a form of human rights violation, ”said the head of the investigation team from Komnas HAM Commissioner M. Choirul Anam in a virtual press conference, Friday (8/1).

He added that the shooting of four FPI soldiers at one time without any effort to avoid more casualties indicated an act of  unlawfull killing. He also recommended that the case of the killing of four FPI troops be continued to enforce the law through a criminal court mechanism. In addition to justice, law enforcement for the killing of four FPI troops is also in order to obtain more complete information.

The shooting incident stems from the pursuit of a Jakarta Police officer against Muhammad Rizieq Shihab for a case of violating health protocols.

“There has been surveillance and tailing outside of police duties,” said Anam.

The incident of attacking and grazing between the FPI’s army and the police at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road occurred so that the car of Muhammad Rizieq Shihab’s group could escape surveillance.

Based on ballistic testing, the findings of three bullet casings were thought to have come from police officers. The rest, allegedly, came from homemade weapons belonging to the FPI laskar. Komnas HAM also suspected that the FPI laskar carried out the shooting with homemade weapons.

“With the traces we found, the projectiles correspond to the bullets that come out of homemade weapons,” he said.

Komnas HAM also recommended investigating the firearms used by FPI’s troops. If it is true that FPI troops carry homemade firearms, then it needs to be prosecuted. However, if it is proven that they do not bring it, it is permissible to clarify.

To note, Komnas HAM has targeted the investigation of the shooting of the six Islamic Defenders Front soldiers to be completed in a month. Komnas HAM has conducted an examination of the bullet projectiles fired by the six FPI troops by the police. Then compare the projectile findings with the witness testimony from the police.

Komnas HAM also involved a team of experts from various universities and independent forensic laboratories to examine the bullet projectiles, including examining the findings of the remains of events to reveal this case. Komnas HAM has also heard statements from the Head of the Metro Jaya Police, Inspector General Fadil Imran and the Director of Jasa Marga, Subakti Syukur. (Ade)
