The Economist: The President is Building a Political Dynasty!

KNews.id- The Economist, one of the most influential media in London, England, highlighted President Jokowi. Foreign media, The Economist, explained that President Jokowi’s track record from ordinary people to the present is said to be building dynastic politics. Media and Political Consultant, Hersubeno Arief, is the person who revealed that there was an article in The Economist that highlighted President Jokowi.” The Economist, London, a very influential and prestigious media based in the UK, presents interesting news about Jokowi’s political future,” said Hersubeno Arief as quoted from the Hersubeno Point YouTube channel which aired Saturday, March 26.

In his explanation at the beginning, Hersubeno informed, The Economist said that President Jokowi who wanted to extend his term of office had two risks which he called twin risks. The first risk is politics, where Jokowi has to face his own supporting party who refuses to extend the amendment.Meanwhile, the second risk is economic. This started from the increase in the price of cooking oil and other basic commodities, to wheat as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“If you are not careful, The Economist warns that Jokowi, who rose to power because of the support of the community and pupulist groups, can be brought down because of the anger of the people who support him,” explained Hersubeno Arief.

Furthermore, Hersubeno Arief said, there were eight notes about President Jokowi written in The Economist.”Jokowi is a popular figure who through his career as Mayor of Solo, then became Governor of DKI, and then stepped into President,” said Hersubeno Arief.

“Secondly, Jokowi is the first figure to become President in Indonesia, not from the political elite or generals, aka the military,” continued Hersubeno Arief.

Furthermore, Jokowi is also considered not to be someone who is close to the dictatorial President Suharto. However, the fourth record shows that there has been a change after Jokowi came to power. He became like Suharto who co-opted the military.

The difference is, Suharto managed to gather technocrats to realize his ideals. He determines the path of government and economy. On the other hand, President Jokowi is controlled by economic cronies.

Based on previous records, the fifth point revealed by The Economist is that Jokowi and his accomplices are trying to extend their position. Not only that, his figure is considered the same as the second President of Indonesia who served for up to five terms. Jokowi is a figure who tries and pays more attention to infrastructure development.Furthermore, as the seventh point, dynastic politics is again in the spotlight. Jokowi, who comes from ordinary circles, is actually building dynastic politics.

This is evidenced by his son, Gibran Mangkubumi, who followed in the footsteps of becoming the mayor of Solo. Gibran is likely to be promoted as Governor of Central Java, replacing Ganjar Pranowo.

“In Indonesia, it is rumored that Gibran will run as a candidate for Governor of DKI Jakarta,” said Hersubeno Arief.

Finally, the new State Capital (IKN) project is said to depend on the extension of the President’s term of office. In closing, Hersubeno Arief said, this is not the only time The Economist has highlighted Jokowi.

“This is not the first time The Economist has criticized President Jokowi’s government. Towards the end of their first term of office, they once made an article that called Jokowi an incompetent president,” concluded Hersubeno Arief. (AHM)
