Record Footsteps of Silmy Karim, the main CEO of Krakatau Steel who was expelled from the DPR!

KNews.id- President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, Silmy Karim, was expelled from the Commission VII DPR RI meeting. He was asked to leave the room by the chairman of the meeting, Bambang Hariyadi.\The expulsion itself began when Silmy Karim responded to Bambang Haryadi’s question as the chair of the meeting, before the question was finished. Bambang Haryadi considered that Silmy Karim’s way of responding was not in accordance with the technical provisions of the trial.

“That’s right (you as the President Director of Krakatau Steel). You please respect this trial. There is a technical trial. How come you don’t respect the Commission? If you can’t speak here, you’re out,” said Bambang in a high tone, Monday (14/2).

Silmy Karim was appointed as President Director of Krakatau Steel through the EGMS on September 6 2018. He was assigned to improve the financial performance of the steel SOE which had suffered losses since 2012.

Successfully handling several state-owned enterprises that were in trouble, Silmy was dubbed a specialist in sick SOEs. At Krakatau Steel, in January 2020 Silmy succeeded in restructuring the debts of 10 creditors. As of October 2021, Krakatau Steel has paid their debts worth IDR 444.7 billion.With the debt restructuring, Krakatau Steel’s debt management is getting better and lighter because it is adjusted to the company’s development and company liquidity.

“The transformation that has resulted in positive performance has made Krakatau Steel healthier financially. We are optimistic to achieve even better performance in the future. Furthermore, at the end of 2021, we plan to pay debts of USD 200 million or around Rp. 2.9 trillion,” said Silmy on November 18, 2021.

In addition, under Silmy’s leadership, Krakatau Steel managed to record a net profit of Rp 1.05 trillion as of October 2021. This net profit gain has been sustainable since it was first achieved in 2020, after eight years of losses.

Prior to his career in BUMN, Silmy also served at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan), to the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). He had attended intelligence education in Germany. Therefore, Silmy joined BIN as a Member of the BIN Strategic Analyst Board in 2013. (Ade/kmprn)
